Nowadays, game developers don’t just want to make new content and patches for their games, they want to thoroughly test them out. Not just by their own teams, but by potential players, or current members of their playerbase. So companies like Blizzard have a PTR, or Public Test Realm, where they put the patches on a special server to be tested out, and then, if approved by both sides, it gets released to the general public. Well, a patch for Overwatch is about to hit the PTR.
What makes this particular patch so special that Blizzard would announce its arrival? Well, this particular patch is bringing the newest character to the game, Moira. That’s right, if you get to play on the PTR, you’ll get first dibs on playing the newest hero in the game.
This isn’t the first time Blizzard has done this, as Doomfist was also put on the PTR first for testing before going worldwide.
Moira is a very interesting character, as she’s a support character that can both help your team and seriously hurt foes. In fact, some of her attacks will have different effects depending on who it’s striking. What’s more, she’s a very versatile fighter, with long and short-range attacks, and a teleportation ability. So you might want to check her out if you get the chance.
But that’s not the only thing coming to the PTR. There are some big changes to both Ana and Mercy that were previewed by Blizzard earlier. Ana’s getting a power boost, and Mercy’s Resurrect will be modified.
Then there are also your standard bug fixes. Some A.I. has been worked on, some maps have been adjusted so that players aren’t taken advantage of, and certain other characters have gotten some bugs fixed.
So if you’re a part of the Overwatch PTR crew, hop onto the server and go have some fun!
