Overwatch is a multi-faceted game. On one hand, it’s one of the most popular games of the last few years, especially in the multiplayer market, but, it’s also one of the most divisive of sorts. Because of how the game was built, there’s a lot of moving parts, 26 very individual parts that have to interact with other parts if you will. Thus, it needs a lot of fixes and adjustments. But, Blizzard doesn’t just want to “fix” things and put them in the game. So, they put it on the Public Test Server first.
The PTR allows for players to try out the fixes and see if they actually help, and this can allow for even better fixes and changes in Overwatch. A new patch has just hit the PTR, and it’s looking to help change a big problem with two characters: Ana and Mercy.
First, for Ana, she has gotten her biotic rifle damage increased from 60 to 70. What’s more, Blizzard acknowledges that Ana is getting “outshined” by other units, and hopes that this increase of power makes her more desirable to players.
Then, there’s her healing counterpart: Mercy, a character that has been scrutinized by many players recently as being too powerful, among other things.
Well, Blizzard thinks she’s too powerful as well and is trying to de-power her a bit. So, her Resurrect ability now has a cast time. What’s more, while casting, her speed is lowered by 75%. If that’s not enough, Resurrect can now be interrupted if you knockback, stun, or hack Mercy.
One catch though, if Mercy goes into Valkyrie mode and uses Resurrect, it’s instantaneous.
Blizzard hopes that this fix will make Mercy a lot more manageable to foes and not frustrate them like previous builds have done. Again, this patch is NOT live on the main game, and could easily be added to before going live. So if you want to make this patch the best it can be, go and try it out on the PTR and let Blizzard know your thoughts on it.
