In this modern age of gaming, there are plenty of ways to ensure the quality of a game or its updates. One of them is to put them into the hands of the gamer themselves. For many developers, this is done through early access builds or public test servers that allow players to get a glimpse of what’s coming and see if they can find fault with it. This has been a big thing for Blizzard and their titles for quite awhile, and now, for Overwatch, they’re doing it once again for their next patch.
The newest patch for Overwatch is now available for testing on their PTR (public test region), and features a variety of updates and changes that they want players to test out before it goes lives to the world. Now, anyone can play the PTR as long as they have a Battle.net and Overwatch account in good standing. This means that you aren’t currently banned or suspended for any reason. Blizzard does note however that the PTR is run off of US servers, so if you’re from outside the US you’ll likely experience latency issues. Also, there’s a limit to how many players can be in the PTR at once, so if it gets to that limit, you’ll have to wait your turn to join.
Now, what’s in the new patch? Well easily the biggest thing is the all-new map that Blizzard revealed recently in the Horizon Lunar Colony. This place has a very special meaning in Overwatch lore for those who know it, and it’s arrival in the game has long been desired.
Another big change is the ability to have more things to adjust in Custom Games mode. You can now affect other players gravity, jump height, and even the knockback effect their weapons have. Of course, a bunch of the Overwatch heroes have been adjusted as well, and Blizzard lists the changes in full so you can check them out.
So as you can see, there’s a reason why this patch is on the PTR first. If you want to go help make it great, go sign up for it and get in there!
