It’s always interesting to look at not just what the best-selling video games are for a console, but what are actually played the most. After all, just because you buy a game doesn’t mean you play it very long, or sometimes don’t even finish it, right? But when a game is good, REALLY good, you find yourself dedicated to finishing it. So, for the Nintendo Switch, it had a pretty big year in 2017, and a lot of great games came out for it. So, it makes you wonder…
…what were the games that people played the most on it? Sure, we know the bestsellers like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon, and more, but what about the hour count? Well, Nintendo released a list detailing the games that had the most in-game hours spent in them. Here are the top 20 for North America:
1. Zelda: Breath of the Wild
2. Super Mario Odyssey
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
4. Splatoon 2
5. Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition
6. Stardew Valley
7. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
9. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
10. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+
11. NBA 2K18
12. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
13. Fire Emblem Warriors
14. LEGO City Undercover
15. Sonic Mania
16. Pokken Tournament DX
17. 1-2 Switch
18. FIFA 18
19. Disgaea 5 Complete
20. Rocket League
To be honest, this is a pretty interesting list, with a lot of different games on here both first and third party. Not surprisingly, Breath of the Wild is No.1, but if you think about it, given the very open nature of the game, and the fact that it was the launch title, it’d be odd if it wasn’t.
But there are some surprises on here, like how Stardew Valley is No.6, Minecraft at No.5, Skyrim at No.9? Sonic Mania at No.15? It’s pretty cool.
That being said, these numbers we feel don’t reflect certain things. Mainly, the month of December, as Rocket League grew a LOT in December on the Switch, not to mention Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was released at the beginning of December and that game is literal a time sink. So, if the December numbers are eventually added, we think the list would look a little different.
