For Overwatch players, there’s a simple and almost primal joy of getting a new character in the game. After all, it encourages new possibilities, it could turn out that the character that was added is a perfect match for that person, and thus it can become a new main for them. Or, it can be a perfect character to team up with and unleash new strategies upon foes. But, there’s also the chance that the new character brings the game down in some way, whether intentional or not.
This seems to be the case for one Overwatch player, who notes that to him, new character Orisa is actually bringing the game down, instead of boosting it up. Player McNutt notes that this has nothing to do with her being overpowered or underpowered, as it’s almost impossible to tell which one she is because she was just put into the game. No, this complaint has to do with one of her abilities. Specifically, the shield she has.
While not technically a “flaw” in the game, to McNutt, it’s more of an annoyance. For to him, this means that there are now multiple characters that have a powerful shield that needs to be shot down or waited out just to attack the character.
“I like Reinhardt’s shield and even Symmetra’s shield is kind of fun. But sticking down another big shield that takes a decent amount of effort to destroy and a long time to wait it out makes the game just a little more boring,” he notes.
He goes on by noting that all the matches he played the previous day had Orisa in the opposing team, and each one used the shield frequently, much to his annoyance.
The Overwatch community weighed in on the topic, and interestingly, some agreed with his arguments. For in their experiences, they keep seeing people spam the shield of Orisa’s, thus making it an issue. Others though believe that this will work out if time is allowed.
“While a new shield to get around is a bit of a hassle, it’s stationary and can’t be moved until Orisa can deploy another one, give her a bit of time on live to see how things play out,” say JakuNonon.
