There’s a lot of strategy that goes into Overwatch. From how you battle, to how you play with your team, to how you play against the other team, to the objectives, and of course, what characters you play with and why. Many matches can be determined by the lineup of which your team has, or changes into. Sometimes, you even try and counter certain characters by picking one they’re not-so-good against. However, many Overwatch players are saying that one character is a game-breaker in some aspects because you are forced to counter her, Pharah.
Now, by “forced to counter her”, players mean that the moment you see Pharah on the battlefield, you have to drop what you’re doing and either reselect who you are to better suit the fact she’s in the game, or, readjust your whole strategy so you can deal with her. According to Battle.net user TouchyTime:
“This is bad design,” he says bluntly.
User Shokio builds upon this notion by noting that while Overwatch is absolutely a game about “counterpicks” and changing up strategy, to deal with characters at times, at no other point do you HAVE to change your character to deal with another champion unless it’s Pharah. Plus, as she goes on, apparently some characters just can’t do anything against her, making her even more of a pain.
The rest of the community was rather mixed about this. On one hand, many people upvoted both TouchyTime and Shokio’s posts, over 100 each, but others aren’t so sure they believe what they’re saying. Many noted that while Pharah does have that effect to an extent, she’s hardly the only one in Overwatch to force teams hands. Examples like Reinhardt, Widowmaker, and more were called out for having the same effect.
Yet, others came to back them and wholeheartedly agreed that Pharah just isn’t fair in Overwatch. Which side do you fall on? Let us know in the comments below.
