Overwatch is a game that is not spared from the constant complaints about broken heroes, lack of balance and so on. We decided to present our personal views of some of the heroes based on our experiences.
Overwatch is fundamentally a great game, but can also be an irritating one. Its PvP focused nature brings the usual toxicity, a massive amount of insults in chat and a healthy amount of trolls. The competitive mode currently seems to be slightly more organized in terms of Hero choices based on necessary roles, but if you decide to queue solo, be prepared to lose many games.
As we decided to focus on the current state of Overwatch heroes in this chilled Sunday post, I warn you, there will be tons of QQ from our side. Let’s get started.
I could lie and say there was no particular reason for picking this big fella as the first hero to discuss. Roadhog is probably a hero that irritates everyone and also seems to get the most forum discussions. It is OP without question, but, regardless of the constant complaints, it does not need to be changed. Yes, the Chain Hook is something we’ve had nightmares about, not to mention Take a Breather, which often heals more than an actual healer. But, as a sort of Tank, Roadhog needs to be what it is, and besides, many heroes can actually counter him easily.
Personally, Pharah irritates me the most. She is a game changer easily if used right, and not all classes can take her down. If you end up with a team that neglects Pharah, you will most likely lose. Her Barrage can turn the tide in many situations, and her constant nagging from above certainly has an impact on organized teamwork. Rocket Launcher’s damage is something that I would probably reduce, but in return, would increase its area of effect side. Soldier: 76 seems like the best way to counter her, and it seems others agree with that too.
Genji is annoying as fudge. Similarly to Tracer, it is one of those heroes you will probably not hit after a long night out. The constant jumping around and rapid movement is not easy to follow, unless you are playing a hero that does not need you to actually aim. Genji does not need a nerf, but personally, I would have put more focus on melee combat by adding a basic skill for his katana. Genji’s Deflect ability is most likely not loved by Bastion mains.
Soldier: 76 is a class that does not seem to receive too many complaints, even though, he is an extremely useful and powerful hero without question. Soldier: 76 can easily counter most enemies and the Biotic Field skill is something that only a Healer hero should be allowed to have. Then there’s the beloved Helix Rockets ability that does an insane amount of damage if it gets you. “I’ve got you in my sights,” is a line that many of us do not want to ever hear again.
When I first mentioned irritating in this post, Mei was probably the first character that popped up in my mind. Not necessarily the most popular choice, but this little girl can do some serious damage, and also annoy the hell out of her teammates. Ice Wall trolls are my favorite. Mei is one of those heroes that can counter the tougher ones like Roadhog, Reinhardt and even the more agile ones. Blizzard seems to need a bit of tweaking, but otherwise, seems fine as it is.
Whoever thought nerfing Ana was a good idea, at least to this extent, must have had some heavy personal issues with the hero because she is currently rather weak in many aspects. At this point, I’d like to quote a random teammate in competitive who got rather mad after an epic fail of a match. “Who the f&@k wants to try and hit these jumping idiots with heals when I can’t even hit the enemies,” was his quote of the day, and if you’ve attempted to heal with Ana before, you might just agree. Ana is not hard to counter at all, and if you manage to survive the Sleep Dart, you’ll find her quite easy to kill.
Reaper was a hero that I probably hated most of all when Overwatch kicked off, but by now, I don’t find it hard to counter at all. If you can keep the distance and avoid the Death Blossom, your blood pressure should remain stable. His skins are badass though.
Cute bird, cute voice. But in fact, there is nothing cute about this little weapon of mass destruction. I personally find it terribly boring to play, and players often seem to use it in a foolish way. However, when your side is defending, Bastion can be a crucial part of the team if used right. Just be nice and don’t use it too often, please. Configuration: Tank could probably take a slight nerf, but not something that should be on top of the quick fix list.
Nerf those bloody Sentry Turrets, I beg you. Those little pesky things are just awful and their damage could also probably take a nerf. The Photon Barrier is a great ability, that Symmetras often end up forgetting to use the right way, and the Teleporter can also be a game changer if not placed by a troll.
Other heroes in Overwatch seem to be balanced to a certain extent, although I could probably write a whole new post about McCree and his Flashbang-Peacekeeper combo or his Deadeye ultimate which urges me to Format C: whenever I hear “It’s high noon”. Additionally, Sombra definitely could use a buff, and she is probably one of the least popular choices in competitive.
I am convinced many of you have a lot more ideas to add to this rant slash praise discussion, and I would love to see them in the comments section below. Let’s get this thing moving.
