There are many kinds of video game players in the world. There are those who play for fun, there are those who play for competition, there are those who prefer story above all else, those who prefer to have great gameplay, those who like to beat the game as fast as they can, and then, there are the completionists. Completionists have one goal: To do, beat, or collect everything in the game. This can be a hard thing to do depending on the title. For example, if you’re looking to collect all the items in Overwatch? You’re going to be doing it for a while.
Don’t take our word for it though. Take the word of Reddit User and Overwatch player ALP_PS2, who went through a painstaking process just to figure out how many Loot Boxes you would need to collect all 1489 items in the game. You can already see how bad this is going to be right?
Let us not take away from the math and logic ALP_PS2 put into this. He broke down the items, the kinds of items, the rarity of the items, and more just to make sure his math was right. Or at the very least, very close to being right. After many calculations, he determined that to get every item, you’ll need to get around 1410 Loot Boxes at minimum. And it’s a 50/50 chance you’ll get everything around that number.
That’s a lot of Loot Boxes. And please note, the reason for such a high number is because of both rarity and the odds of duplicate items you’ll get in them.
Needless to say, Overwatch players were kind of disheartened by that number. They even noted how they fall into this so far based on level and Loot Boxes gotten already. But one comment from Kluless Primate pretty much sums it up:
“But there are going to be more items each few months…”
Overwatch completionists better settle in, because this might take a while.
