Overwatch is a massively popular first-person shooter from the creative minds over at Blizzard. The game has amassed millions of fans world-wide and features a number of likeable characters. Last month, Overwatch released a cinematic that starred perhaps the most universally liked characters in game: Roadhog and Junkrat. The cinematic came paired with the announcement of a new map called “Junkertown” which will become available to play in game on September 19th. Today, fans got a preview of Junkertown on the official Overwatch Youtube channel.
The five minute preview gives us some insight into the lore of the map, shows us how they built it, and even tells us a bit about the sound design. The map itself does truly look like a place that Junkrat and Roadhog might call home and so the developers certainly did their job right.
Junkertown is an escort map which means one team will be trying to move a payload to a predetermined part of the map while the other team tries to fend them off. This is not a new concept for Overwatch but Lead Writer Michael Chu says that there will be some “new interesting wrinkles” that players will come across. We don’t know exactly what those are at the moment, but they will certainly become clear when the map goes live.
Apparently the mission starts on the outskirts of Junkertown on Roadhog’s farm and then carries us through the town itself. The developing team at Blizzard tells fans that they have put a lot of effort into the detail of this map which I am personally inclined to believe, given the look of other maps currently in the game.
The Junkertown map will be playable in game on all platforms on the 19th of this month, so make sure you keep your game updated. If you want more Overwatch content, be sure to read MMOexaminer’s last article on the subject where we talked about the possibility of a skin making contest.
