There’s no doubt that modern game development takes a lot of time to flesh out the artwork of its characters (when there are characters in it that is), as that’s what players are looking at most of the time. For games like Overwatch, the detail is even more important, as these are the characters that players must choose from, battle as, battle with, and battle against, and they want each one to stand out. But they also want them to look as cool as possible, so, they develop special skins for them.
Some of these skins are theme related, like when Overwatch did numerous holiday skins such as Halloween, Christmas, and the Chinese New Year. Others are event-oriented, like the Uprising event, the Summer Games event, and more. But some fans are wondering if they should be allowed to get in on the action by having an Overwatch Skin Contest. This comes from Redditor d_morning, who notes:
“We all know blizzard, for the most part, responds to the community and the OW community has some very talented artist, so well should they accept skin concepts from the fans.”
Obviously, if Blizzard just randomly allowed fans to submit skins it wouldn’t go anywhere, and Overwatch fans on Reddit noted as much. However, doing something like this is far from unprecedented. Many games have done just that, such as Master X Master, who offered up one of their characters, gave fans specific instructions on how to make it happen, then gave them a time limit to do the work.
Would you take part in such a contest? And who should be the focus of the first one? Let us know in the comments below!
