2016 was a big year for many games, especially for the likes of Paragon, a MOBA title from Epic Games, which arrived on Steam Early Access last year, and has been growing ever since. For example, they have 5.7 million players registered, 25 heroes available to play as right now, they have had 132 updates based on player feedback and natural progression, and have added many new features and modes to the game.
Epic Games have outlined how they aim to build upon a strong previous year in 2017. First up, they have confirmed that heroes will continue to be released every three weeks. This is something they did in 2016, but they had some things that delayed it at times. So for this year, they’re going to try really hard to makes sure a new hero comes every three weeks. Though they admit, there could be delays again.
Furthermore, players have noted that many of the recent heroes have all been melee characters, which is both problematic, while also being unfair to those who don’t like to do melee focused fighting. But, Epic Games will endeavor to make a more balanced rotation, starting with a ranged hero in Iggy & Scorch in April.
A really big change is that Epic Games is totally reworking the card system. Not just a simple tweak or two, they’re basically starting from the ground up again. They themselves and players feel the card system doesn’t live up to what it should be. They want the cards to be an important part of gameplay, while also being easy to use and understand, but that’s not the case right now. So Epic is working hard to fix it, and thus make Paragon a better game because of it.
Finally, the community has asked the the team for new game modes to do in Paragon, and Epic Games is happy to oblige. Apparently, they have two new “fun” modes in development and testing right now. One is a PVP mode, while the other is a PVE Co-Op mode. Because of the nature of development, and the risks in “degrading” Paragon if launched incorrectly, release dates are for now TBD.
If you’re wondering about Competitive Play, Epic are currently working on it, but they don’t want to rush it. They want it perfect at launch, or as close as they can get that is. For the full list of what’s happening in Paragon this year, you can read about it here.
