The free-to-play ARPG Path of Exile was subject to somewhat of a resurgence in popularity recently, probably down to its release on Xbox One not so long ago. So much so, that it began to raise the question even more than before if the game could knock Diablo III of its throne of best ARPG, but that positivity appears to have slipped away as of late.
There have been concerns shown by members of the game’s community, to the extreme that they are questioning if the game is dead. This might be a bit extreme, as there are a few reasons as to why there might be a decline, yet completely dead is rather inaccurate.
Steam Charts show that despite a resurgence in August, there has been a downward slope in terms of average monthly players. It is worth keeping in mind that the game has been out for four years now, and despite it once being one of the most played games on Steam, it was always going to begin to slip at some point or other.
Plus, it’s not as if it has been on a consistent downward slope. There have been intermittent months where it has picked up, though that will be a common practice in many other games of a similar genre and life cycle. The burnout of grinding through the game for alterations to be made that are against a player’s liking is bound to trim the fat to an extent, with only the loyal and dedicated players remaining.
