When it comes to video game genres, there’s a lot of “standard” things that each genre has, and because of that, if you throw a dart at a board full of a games from a genre, you can pretty much hit something that has something in common with those other games. And to an extent, that’s OK. Familiarity is good in gaming, and it can be used to help build up a title rather than bring it down. But, that doesn’t always mean that players will enjoy the familiar things. Take Final Fantasy XIV for instance; players are asking if they actually enjoy Raids.
Now, for sure, raids are a big part of MMORPGs like Final Fantasy XIV, as it brings large groups of players together to take on massive dungeons or do specific quests. But just because they’re “standard” doesn’t mean people like them. On Reddit, user PeanutZero1 laments that he just doesn’t find them fun:
“I love playing the game but for some reason I can’t get into raiding, it feels like a job finding a group to clear and actually make it fun.”
Ironically, this is a problem that many MMORPGs have. Finding a good raiding party is not easy, and even when it does happen quickly, it can sometimes not be as fun as advertised. Now sure, if you’re able to get with people you talk with a lot in your game, that’ll be different, but that doesn’t always happen.
Other Redditors weighed in on the issue. Some agreed that finding a good party is hard, but once you do, raiding is a fun experience. A few even went so far to say that without raids, they wouldn’t log into Final Fantasy XIV every day.
What about you? Where do you stand on raids? Are they fun? Are they stressful? Let us know in the comments below.
