PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is in a very interesting place development-wise. For on one hand, the game is so popular that it’s breaking records and earning nominations for video game awards. On the other hand, it’s on Steam Early Access, which means the game is not done. But, the team at Bluehole have stated that their goal is to have the game done by the end of the year, and they’ve been taking steps to make that happen. This including running tests on a server for update 1.0.
The tests happened recently, but now, as noted on Reddit, they have closed. With many people talking about their experiences with the test servers. Some are thankful for the test, while others are fearful that even with the improvements that the game made through the potential patch, the game still won’t be as fun and refined as it should be. It’s another interesting situation.
Now, obviously, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds was never going to be perfect, multiplayer games rarely are, but there is something about this game that makes people not just want to play, but play it often, which is why players are eager to see what’s coming with the potential launch patch, because it added new features that’ll be put into the main game.
Another interesting thing to note is that the game won’t just be coming to PC, an Xbox One version is on the way, and it’ll be here in just a few weeks via Xbox One preview. Between these two versions, players are wondering if Bluehole will be able to keep its promise of launching the game before the year ends.
It’s clear though that the team won’t just be launching the game prematurely, in fact, they have another test server run coming up in a few days, with details to be released on Monday apparently.
