PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is without a doubt one of the hottest trending games on the market right now. In fact, it’s so popular, that recent data from Steam suggests that it could reach over 2 million concurrent players (aka the number of players playing at one moment in time) very soon. But, while this is a very impressive stat and feat, it is causing some problems within the game itself. Because of that, the team at Bluehole are having to do some things to try and ensure a better experience.
On their Steam page, the team noted that one of the casualties of the rapidly rising numbers is the Leaderboard reset. The game has been doing seasons for some time now, but because of the numbers, resetting the leaderboards in order to kickstart a new season has become difficult. Mainly because they don’t feel the game the game is stable enough to ensure a fair and fun season.
So, their solution is that they’re delaying the start of the new season until October 17th, and they’ve shut down the leaderboards until that time. Now, you can still play PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, they aren’t restricting that, but, the matches won’t be recorded, so your rank won’t increase if you win.
The team apologizes for doing this to you, but, they want to make sure the game is fair for all, and making sure that the servers can handle the increased number of players is vital in their eyes. Now, whether this extra week of preparation and work will help the game remains to be seen. Yet, you can’t deny that they are trying, and that means a lot.
In the meantime, since you can still play the game, why not use the “free” matches to bump up your own skill level? Make sure you’re ready for when the new season of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds arrives?
