Another day, another chance to talk about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This time though, there’s some very big news surrounding it. For a while now, developer Bluehole has been teasing the next map that would be coming to the game. We knew it would be a desert level, but beyond that, it was unclear. But now, on Steam, the team has revealed the official name for the map: Mirimar. As the team notes, this map was to be the opposite of map Erangel, and much of its construction was done to make sure certain player tactics wouldn’t work here.
“The unique terrain and dense urban areas of Miramar will create a new Battle Royale experience where the old strategies may no longer work and new tactics are required.”
This is an interesting tactic to be sure, but no doubt players will appreciate the freshness that Mirimar offers them once they get their hands on it. But, of course, one of the things that makes PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds so special is the size of its maps, and as you’ll see below Mirimar is huge, and has plenty of landmarks.
As you can see, there are plenty of cities, towns, landmarks, and other areas for you to both be spawned in, and fight foes in. And each of these areas are unique unto each other. Los Leones, for example, is the biggest city on this map, and here you can expect many buildings, as well as opportunties, to get loot. In contrast, San Martin is a small town that has been turned into a war zone of sorts as you’ll find out. But that war zone may be a good defensive point if used correctly.
There hasn’t been a release date for the map yet, however, the team did say that they would be releasing the map in the test before Version 1.0 hits. Also, The Game Awards will be showing off the new map tomorrow.
