Long time PlayStation Plus subscribers may find themselves in a bit of a fury after this piece of news. The 49.99 USD price-point for PS Plus will be all but short-lived. For the first time since the launch of the service in 2010, prices to maintain it will hike up to $59.99 per year.
In a world where consoles are becoming more iterative, and the accessibility of PC as a gaming platform is on an eternal incline, it could be considered a risky move by Sony to make their playable online services more expensive. In the eyes of consumers, it has to be justified in a very adamant way in order to keep people playing.
Between Sony’s leaked PS4 Slim and their upcoming presentation in September, they’ve managed to remain actively in the news this week.
Those subscribed to PS Plus should examine their subscription renewal date closely. The changes to price-points will take place on September 22nd. If you’re planning on keeping your subscription to the service, know that these changes will effect your renewal if that date is on the 22nd or after that date.
Stay tuned for more PlayStation news and announcements, as I’m sure there will be quite a bit more on the way.
