When it comes to expansions in MMORPGs, it’s not always enough to have just new story content, new classes, items, weapons, etc. Often, these expansions open up new lands for players to explore. This has been the backbone of many expansions for World of Warcraft, with new lands like Pandaria, the Broken Isles, and more opened up via these extensions. In fact, fans have come to expect new lands in nearly every expansion. But, with the end of Legion (the most recent expansion) nigh, where will Blizzard take players next?
For many, the answer lies in the South Seas. Apparently, clues and hints have been dropped that it could be here, and it is a section of Azeroth that hasn’t been explored yet. However, for Redditor jhere, he wonders if there could be another place to go for an expansion. Not for content reasons mind you…but for seeing the aftermath of that announcement:
“I’m happy with whatever expansion they announce so it’s not like I’m rooting against south seas or anything but maaan the sh*tstorm would be glorious.”
How noble, right?
But, the question is somewhat valid, if it WASN’T the South Seas getting the focus, where would they go? More importantly, would fans be ok with it? Other Redditors weighed in the possibility.
Some are ok with the idea of the South Seas expansion, if for no other reason than to cross it off the list of places to go in World of Warcraft. Others however aren’t so eager, the idea of this expansion is dreadful, as they don’t want to have a water-themed one.
A few Redditors noted that while the expansion theme wouldn’t be bad per se, they fear the content that Blizzard will put into it. They want fresh and new content, not rehashes of past experiences like certain expansions have done.
Many are hoping that Blizzard announces something at the upcoming BlizzCon, we’ll have to wait and see though.
