After nearly five years, PvP makes its debut in online action RPG PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2.
Developed and published by SEGA in Japan (and other companies in Southeast Asian territories), PHANTASY STAR ONLINE 2 is an action RPG based on an instanced environment. The franchise was the first to present an online mode on consoles, starting with Phantasy Star Online in 2000. Its focus throughout the years has been mostly PvE (player-versus-environment) content. PSO2 is no exception.
As time passes, however, players expect more content. Attending demands, developers have decided to include PvP starting on March 8. Much like the Challenge mode, PvP will have its own server and block (PSO2‘s equivalent to channels) structure dedicated to the mode. Players will be able to go all out on each other in three fields, each their individual characteristics. Furthermore, it will be possible to play either ranked or password matches, the latter of which is meant for friends who just want to have some fun.
PvP will also introduce a new scratch called the Battle Scratch. Its concept is similar to the FUN and the AC scratches, except it becomes available after players complete ranked matches. The first slot can be opened for free, but further slots will require Star Gems. The Battle Scratch can bestow many prizes, including the all-new Grind Cap +1, which raises the limit to which NT weapons can be grinded. It will be possible for players to sell it through their My Shop.
Finally, PvP matches will award players with battle coins, which can be exchanged at the Battle Coin Exchange Shop for costumes, weapons camos, and even ★12 units.
Those excited for the NieR: Automata collaboration will have to wait a bit longer to cosplay as the stylish androids. The collaboration will become available on March 10 (JST), although the update containing it will be pushed during the maintenance on March 8 (also JST).
