Nintendo fans realize that there’s just a little over a month before the launch of their newest console, the Nintendo Switch. MatPat, a YouTuber most commonly known for theorizing and questioning the conventions of games as an industry as well as a creative medium. In the most recent episode of his debate series “Deadlock” he featured Reggie Fils-Aime of Nintendo of America.
The debate in this episode? Whether or not Nintendo should cease making consoles. A bold undertaking for the YouTuber for certain. Reggie was incredibly vocal about certain aspects of Nintendo’s development philosophy, so for anyone curious about the inner-workings of this industry titan, this is a must watch video without a doubt.
MatPat calls to many recent ideas from Nintendo, such as their move to mobile, and comments on how they’re still able to innovate despite being on a different platform. They can take existing powerful technology and use it to create their signature titles that we’ve all come to know and love.
Each episode is accompanied by animations at the bottom of the screen, which simulate combat every time someone makes a powerful point of some sort.
Of course, Reggie used this video as an opportunity to do a little bit of makeshift marketing for the upcoming Switch. He discussed more logistics of the Joy-Con controllers as well as reiterating the modularity of the console. Watch the entire video right above here! It’s certainly worth the time of any Nintendo fan and MatPat has quite a way with words as well.
