Rare is known for its classic games like the Donkey Kong Country series, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and more. But in recent years, it’s been trying to do something much different. Thus, it was a big surprise when Rare revealed their game Sea of Thieves at E3 a while back, an MMORPG where players would work together to become pirate legends. A big departure for the team for sure. Yet, like an MMORPG, there were a lot of questions on what the game would be like, and how the gameplay and progression would be done.
Well, the team at Rare did a special livestream today to reveal some of these answers. First off, we now know how progression will be handled in the game. The main goal as noted above is to become a “pirate legend”, but to do that, you must build up your reputation, and you do that through adventures. What adventures though will be up to you to determine.
For in the game, there will be trading companies, each one with a different style and personality, and thus, a different style of mission you can do.
The more quests you do, the more your reputation builds, and through that, the better rewards you’ll get from them. But make no mistake, this is an MMORPG, and as such, you’ll have the chance to do missions will players of lesser levels. Rare wants you to play Sea of Thieves together as much as possible.
Rare also teased what would happen once you do become a “pirate legend” apparently, it’ll bring even more content to the game that they can’t wait for you to see for yourselves. But as for what it is exactly, they’re mum on that for now.
Sea of Thieves is coming to the Xbox One on March 20th, 2018.
