When it comes to certain video games, there are those that truly stand the test of time. Ones that go farther, do more for video games than many that have come before it. One of those titles is Shadow of the Colossus. Made by Team Ico, and the second game in their “trilogy,” it pushed gaming both as an art form, and as a story medium through simplistic yet powerful storytelling and magnificent use of art design. Though made for the PS2, it is still held as one of the greatest video games ever.
So imagine our surprise when Shadow of the Colossus made an appearance at E3 during the Sony Press Conference. Furthermore, imagine our surprise when they showed a trailer of a PS4 version of the game, complete with brand new graphics that make every aspect of the game seem even more beautiful. Don’t believe us? Check out the trailer.
As you can see, the game has once again been faithfully recreated, and this, using the maximum power of the PS4 to bring the Colossus to life in even more detail. Heck, even Wander (the main character) looks even more detailed than before. What do we mean by “once again faithfully recreated?” Well, this is the actually the second remaster for Shadow of the Colossus.
You see, it and its predecessor (or sequel technically, it’s complicated) Ico were bundled together for PS3 in a special remastered version. Those versions simply took the original graphics and made them HD compatible and updated some things while also adding things that weren’t in those versions when released to North America. This remaster however is clearly a ground-up remake with the best graphics possible.
The only downside to this? Well, it’s coming out in 2018, as were a lot of games that were announced and shown at the Sony Press Conference. What do you think of this? Let us know in the comments below!
