The makers of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun give fans a very hype-inducing teaser on YouTube in the form of a Developer Walkthrough, going over a dangerous concoction of mischief and mayhem by two of the playable characters in the game.
The game is a team-focused strategy simulator that allows players to take control of different characters, by themselves or simultaneously, in order to complete missions as efficiently as possible. Reminiscent of Commandos, players take a step back and focus on the tactical side of battle.
Five assassins, five different sets of skills and maps upon maps of fodde- I mean, enemies. They are hired by the Shogun in order to quell the rebellion and return peace to the land.
The first character in the spotlight is the ninja, Hayato. Ninjas are SOP for Japanese-based stealth games, and Hayato demonstrates why- blend in with the environment, sneak up behind unwitting enemies and leave no trace behind.
Yuki, on the other hand, is a street rat. Throughout her difficult life, she has learned to use the environment to her advantage, and to set traps as she lures enemies using her DIY flute. She’s clever and strong, earning her survival.
Put these two together and you’ll have enemies that are very dead, very quickly. Shadow Mode allows you to coordinate attacks between the team to take out enemies the way you see fit.
As you can see, the game has the trusty vision cone to assist with staying undetected- it’s been around forever, probably spotted by most in the Metal Gear series. It makes things a bit easier, though the alert system balances the challenge- fail to hide a body in time or get spotted, be ready for swarms of reinforcements.
Registration for the CBT is still open, and the game is expected for launch during the 4th quarter of 2016.
