The forthcoming Forthog Orc-Slayer DLC has been the center of controversy recently, after the small print revealed that only certain territories would see the profit of the DLC being donated to Michael Forgey’s family, after the developer sadly passed away last year and will be immortalized in the added content.
This has been addressed once again by Warner Bros in a recent statement, who have now revealed that the DLC will be available as a free download for players, and the publishers will be making a direct donation to the Forgey family instead. Anyone who has purchased the DLC shouldn’t worry, as refunds will be issued to those who have. This also explains the recent disappearance of the option to purchase the DLC, which seemingly affected all platforms.
According to the statement, WB originally aimed to release the DLC in this fahsion of limited territories in order to remain in compliance with the law, and the decision not to promote the donation outside of the United States would’ve raised questions as to where donations were going, as well as potentially putting them in violation of cause marketing laws in an eye-watering 241 territories.
An excerpt of the statement reads:
We now recognize that tying our donation to sales of the DLC was not the best way to achieve our goal of offering financial support to the family and creating a lasting memorial to Michael Forgey. We sincerely apologize to the fans and to the Forgey family for the confusion we created.
