The Kickstarter for the game Ship of Heroes will start April 4th, after a year of development. Built with the Unreal Engine, it is a blend of the Superhero and Space genres. It is a flagship project and well on its way to having a playable Alpha by the end of this year and the Beta is to be expected by the end of 2018. The Director Business Development for Unreal Engine of Epic Games, Joe Kreiner, has stated that “Epic Games is excited that Ship of Heroes is being built using Unreal Engine 4. Ship of Heroes is developing quickly and we look forward to having another MMO in the market based on our technology, and the community of artists and coders that utilize it”.
According to the CEO of Heroic Games, Casey McGreever, “Ship of Heroes is drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of MMORPGs, but made more dynamic and more quickly brought to market using the best tools available today”. The game takes place in another galaxy, 500 years in the future. It will have both PVE and PVP content, along with combat, crafting, harvesting, and trading systems. They’re aiming for a family-friendly environment with an innovative storyline. Players will explore gigantic ships, raid alien ships, and land on other planets.
Since they first started development they have been sharing video content of their environment, the character creator, and combat. The character creation video can be seen below. Players will have the option of playing as a Tanker, a Scrapper, a Blaster, or a Defender for more on theses archetypes check out their blog post. They also have a post further discussing the setting of the game. Clearly based off City of Heroes, the team hopes that old fans of the game which closed five years ago after running for eight years.
