The early access MMORPG, Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues has teamed up with Water.org to bring water to the world. Since March 22nd is World Water Day, Portalarium has announced that they will be slashing prices on all of their Water.org Make a Difference items by 20%. The list of items includes:
- Ornate Outhouse
- Wish Well
- Water Magic Cloak
- Rain Emote
- Water Package
According to the Water.org official site, World Water Day is “a day when the world turns its attention towards the 750 million people who lack access to safe water.” As an organization, Water.org aims to bring water to the 663 million people in the world without access to safe water. Founders Matt Damon and Gary White have been working towards this goal and have so far brought water to 5 million people across the world.
The Shroud of the Avatar team is doing their part by donating 50% of their profits from all Water.org in-game items to the organization. According to the post made on their official website today, Shroud of the Avatar has helped raise over $27,000 for the cause. For an early access indie title, that’s truly impressive!
For those who might not know, Shroud of the Avatar (or SotA for short) is an early access pre-alpha title available on Steam that people often compare to the massively popular game Runescape. It is described on the official website as a “fantasy RPG that combines a single player narrative with a sandbox MMO”. The team behind this project includes names such as Richard Garriott and Starr Long from the Ultima series, along with the author of Dragonlance, Tracey Hickman.
While Shroud of the Avatar has been open to some mixed reviews on steam, any game or organization that supports Water.org and their cause are alright by my book. Will you be buying any of these water-centric in-game items in support of World Water Day?
