There’s a lot of balance work that goes into a game like Overwatch because there’s a lot of characters that need to be balanced against each other. If one character is too powerful for example, then players will tend to flock to that character because it gives them an advantage, rather than playing a character because you’re skillful with them. But also, if a character is too weak, they’ll never get used, even by their mains. Thus, it’s a constant balancing act that gets many patches and fixes.
But, just as the balancing act is a constant thing, there is another constant thing that is Overwatch players wondering if a character got too big of a boost, or is in need of a nerf, or both. For Battle.net player AZUR3, his complaint comes from the fact that in his mind, Soldier 76 is still way too powerful.
“Why is the statistically dominant DPS completely ignored in these balances? There’s never going to be another DPS that can beat the versatility, mobility, and sheer damage that Soldier consistently brings,” he asks his fellow Overwatch players.
Other players don’t share his views, as many state that Soldier 76 is fine the way he is, and that the only reason that he gets picked in a lot of matches is because of some of his abilities, but they’re not doing it because they’re OP, but rather, that they’re just good abilities that couldn’t work with other characters in the game.
There were some who agreed with him to a small degree though:
“I think Soldier could use a little nerf to prevent him from overshadowing Mccree much longer,” said StRode.
So, what do you think? Does Soldier 76 seem too powerful to you? Is he a character that deserves a nerf because he’s way too powerful? Or do you think this is just an overreaction by one Overwatch player? Let us know in the comments below.
