We have seen no shortage of horror titles pop up over the last few years, ones that have taken the genre by the scruff of the neck and dragged it back to what made it so seminal in the first place, and that aspect is fear. Many titles have gone out of their way to achieve this, with entries such as Outlast, Amnesia, Layers of Fear, Resident Evil 7, Syndrome among others that have given the genre a resurgence of sorts. One title in particular that sits among these is SOMA, which is finally making its way onto Xbox One this week.
Some of you may have experienced SOMA before, having previously released on both PS4 and PC, the two platforms in which the horror game made its name. The game offers up an underwater setting that focuses heavily on survival. Your radio is completely kaput, the food is starting to run low, and machines are becoming self-aware. PATHOS-II, the underwater facility which you’ll be inhabiting, has a distinct feeling of isolation surrounding it, and within it you’ll be forced into making a number of hard decisions in order to progress.
SOMA ultimately brings you a horror experience buried deep beneath the waves of the ocean. You’ll have to head into locked terminals, scan through secret documents and more to uncover the truth behind all that is going on down there. Players will have to find the last remaining entities down below and mould the fate of what happens to the station.
SOMA arrives on Xbox One on December 1st, 2017.
