Last year, during The Game Awards, Bandai Namco revealed that their popular fighting game franchise Soul Calibur was returning for a sixth entry. And in a twist, this new entry would actually go back to the beginning of the franchise’s history to reveal new details of what happened to start this “story of souls and swords”. And this has led many to wonder who would make an appearance in the game. Well, a new trailer has dropped, revealing two returning veterans.
First up is the one and only Ivy Valentine, a staple of the series since its beginning, Ivy is one of the most recognizable characters not just in Soul Calibur, but in all of gaming. One of the reasons is because of her look, which has…uh…attracted quite a fanbase. The other reason is her iconic blade known as the Valentine. This weapon is part blade, part whip, is able to bend and extend in numerous ways, and as is shown in the trailer below, she can turn it into a bow, and channel magic through it.
The other new character is Zasalamel, who first appeared in the series via Soul Calibur III, and he again wields his scythe with deadly accuracy and strength. What’s more, it appears as though he’ll be able to stop time in Soul Calibur VI, which could be a game changer depending on how it’s used and how much players can use it.
Other characters that will be in the game include Mitsurugi, Sophitia, Talim, Kilik, Nightmare, Xianghua and a new character named Groh. No doubt the roster will include many more characters, but the real question is how many more new faces will appear. We expect at least a few more, but it’s up to Bandai Namco to make it happen.
Soul Calibur VI is set to arrive this year.
