Space is a place that is the setting for many forms of media, mainly because we all wonder what is out there in its depths. Is it really just planets, stars, and asteroids? Or is there something else waiting for us? Well, one new video game project wants to give players the freedom to explore a procedurally generated galaxy at their own pace. And what’s more, the game itself is a passion project by one person. Still not enough? The game is already funded on Kickstarter. Welcome to Skywanderers.
Skywanderers is in fact a space exploration game, one where the galaxy itself is the sandbox, and you can do what you want in it, go any direction you want and fly there, it’s your call, and one you will make over and over again. What’s more, you’re going to be making your own ships, and you’ll be doing it via the block voxel system that games like Minecraft gives you to construct objects. Creator Francois Duret wanted the building system to be simple, intuitive, and fun, so that players could truly make what they wanted then fly off towards the stars.
An interesting twist on the building side of things is that you can do tiny details to help set your ship apart from others. That includes designing the cockpit the way you want it, as well as outer details on the ship.
Want something else to build? No problem! Skywanderers also has mech suits that you can build, and in a couple different styles! And speaking of style, everything you make can be painted to your specific coloring style.
There’s a lot to explore out in space, and you’ll find out not only is there darkness out there, but tremendous beauty. And because of how the game was made, every single adventure in it will be different and special.
As noted before, Skywanderers is already funded. But, if you want to add to it and ensure your copy of the game, go and support it.
