This post from the developers of Star Citizen are now reflecting on the time since their crowdfunding efforts came to a close several years ago. This post is titled Letter from the Chairman.
The studio has elaborated that because of the efforts of the crowdfunding campaign, they were able to hire a larger team. Their intention from then on was to massively increase the scope of the game, and essentially serve to create a vast versatile space exploration experience, all from a first-person perspective.
The developers also elaborated on why the ship sales are such an integral part of the formula. It’s got a lot to do with the fact that the game is becoming costly. The salaries of developers, as well as access to the new technology becoming available, it’s important that developers are able to move with the times.
The developers have also been very forward about the fact that they do not expect backers to pay any more money to have access to all of the main game and endgame content.
Finally, the post ended with a thank you and congratulations to all backers for the four-year anniversary. While the time may be long, there is no doubt that eventually Star Citizen will make its way to the hand of the consumer. As the developers have said, “see you in the verse.”
