PVP is an essential part of many MMORPGs. It’s a way for players to battle one another, as well as get special items, level up their characters or gear, and more. However, when PVP isn’t balanced, fair, or appealing, players shy away from it. This is a problem because PVP is often the last safe haven for MMORPG players. For Star Wars: The Old Republic players, this is a real problem.
This discussion comes from player oGPerses, who notes that PVP isn’t that “attractive” when it comes to Ranked vs. Unranked matches, noting that it’s basically impossible to get a ranked match in the Shadowlands arena where unranked happens all the time. “Since most people have started PVPing to continue gearing and so on everyone just sits in unranked games because there is nothing different between the two (aside from the daily/weekly missions but nobody seems to care about those).” He says.
To oGPerses, the solution is simple: Make the Ranked matches mean something more to players, as there doesn’t seem to be a significant difference between ranked and unranked. Other SWTOR players weighed in on this and agreed with the suggestion, even adding their own problems/concerns with ranked matches.
One player noted that the reason she shies away from Ranked play is because of the toxic community, as well as numerous cheats or hacks that only seem to happen in ranked play, and the “stupid gearing system”. She believes that this is why many PVP players in Star Wars: The Old Republic stay away from it because there’s no gain, only frustration to be had.
Other players more weighed in with similar comments, citing the community, bugs, hacks, and lack of rewards as the main reasons Ranked PVP just doesn’t matter to them.
