With the benefits of technology, comes the advancements that we know today. Whether it’s crystal clear picture on a TV screen, surround sound in your home or theater, or the best video games the world has ever known, technology does make things better. However, there is a cost, as there are those who would use technology to harm others, or to cheat. For Star Wars: The Old Republic fans, one particular cheat seems to be popping up more and more…
This comes from SWTOR user BeoAzazel, who notes he has been playing the game for years without significant issue. Even stating that he leveled up a new character to level 70 without issue. But, then not soon after, he started experience major lag issues, and frames per second droppage, but only when playing against certain players it seems.
While at first he counted it off as random, he noticed that other people were experiencing this problem too. So he started to pay attention, and noticed this kept happening when a certain player called Toxin Germ, in The Ebon Hawk server, approached him. Whenever he left, the game went back to normal.
For him, this can’t be coincidence, he reiterates that he played the game fine until he met a level 70 player and then the lags hit. Not everyone is convinced though, and some don’t think it’s appropriate that he’s naming people in a forum post instead of just reporting it to the Devs.
That’s not to say this isn’t a real issue. What he’s getting is called “nuking”, in which a person uploads an illegal program to a game and overloads a players IP address so that their game basically breaks down, and lets their opponents take advantage. It was this very thing that led to 22,000 Overwatch accounts being banned in South Korea.
Now, we can’t say this is exactly what’s happening in Star Wars: The Old Republic, but, it does sound very similar…
