Before Warcraft or Assassin’s Creed, before Resident Evil or Tomb Raider, this film established a horrific trend of movies based on video games never living up to expectations. I’m talking about Super Mario Bros, the 90s disaster that defaced one of gaming’s most beloved franchises. That being said, with the amount of time that’s passed, we appear to be in a “so bad it’s good” situation.
It would seem Nintendo agrees, as they’re now doing a Blu-ray special edition of the incredibly poorly received film. It’s amazing how things come full circle sometimes.
If you’re interested in seeing Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo portray the most bizarre rendition of the overall-clad plumber duo to date, this is your opportunity to do exactly that.
Released in 1993, Super Mario Bros is a film about two Brooklyn based brothers trying to make a living. On a date with a local student, a young Luigi discovers more than he’s cut out for. The evil King Koopa is aiming to take control of Brooklyn, as well as the rest of the “human world.”
These unlikely heroes will take a leap into a strange steampunk version of what might be the Mushroom Kingdom where clubs and crime lords rule the streets, and fungus overruns all.
As of right now the Blu-ray edition is only set to launch in the UK. The Blu-ray release of Super Mario Bros. is set to launch in February of 2017. Get ready for some classic Nintendo action in a way you’ve never seen before.
