The Star Wars universe lost a great friend the other day. As Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the films, passed away after major health complications. Since then, many have been paying tribute to her. It didn’t take long though for the players in Star Wars: The Old Republic, or SWTOR, to pay tribute as well.
Though the character of Leia technically wasn’t a part of this side of the Star Wars universe, fans of all ages gathered in number to honor her. It started simply with a person taking the to make a Leia lookalike character, and placed her in a very open area for everyone to see. Then, as news spread, fans began to arrive and pay tribute.
Some simply looked at the character, others waved, many launched fireworks in tribute. Some went the extra mile and had their player characters kneel in tribute to her, honoring the princess that had fallen. For Jedi characters, they raised their lightsabers in honor of what Leia had done. Some even tried to have fun during the somber moment, by dancing with Princess Leia. A lot of people did this.
Many even did a “tour” of key Star Wars locations with Leia, including walking through the House Organa, the family of which she was adopted to.
Many mourned the loss of Carrie Fisher. Her Star Wars co-stars, directors, friends, and family have all paid tribute to her. Now, the fans have done the same. As they say, the circle is complete. Wherever Carrie Fish is within The Force, I hope she can see this and smile.
