On September 9, 2016, Tencent Holdings Limited, together with Hi-Rez Studios, announced that they will work together to bring Paladins, the team based shooter, to China.
Paladins is somewhat of an MOBA shooter, combining some elements of MOBA games with fast paced FPS action and character customization through collectible cards. We already discussed how Paladins and Paragon are upcoming games that are trying to be distinct with that system, so read that if you’re interested in more details about the customization in that game. Paladins is currently in beta within North America and Europe.
Todd Harris, Hi-Rez Studios co-founder and COO said:
”We’re very excited to partner with Tencent to bring Paladins to China[…] Tencent’s track record of leadership and excellence with FPS games and esports offerings within China is impeccable. There is no better partner in China. We are especially excited for what this means for the game’s worldwide competitive future”
To further promote this partnership and to expose the game to Chinese players as much as possible, Tencent announced a series of events that will determine who the best Paladins players in China are. The best Chinese Paladins team get to fly to Atlanta, GA to face off against the best players from all around the world in the first Paladins Invitational Tournament at Hi-Rez Expo on January 5-8, 2017.
