With the release of the new Morrowind DLC creeping up and the closed-beta currently on-going, the Elder Scrolls Online is doing as much as they can to hype up the Warden. The MMORPG posted an article today discussing, in a very lore-friendly way, some details about the new class.
The article is in the form of a short essay, written by Lady Cinnabar of Taneth – a prolific scholar in the Elder Scrolls universe. She talks about how interesting she finds the Wardens, and compares them to the Spinners of Y’ffre, which are a group of priests that worship the Elder Scrolls God of the forest. This makes sense since the Wardens are a nature-based class with nature-centric abilities.
Lady Cinnabar then goes on to state that the Wardens are clearly much more prone to bloodshed than the Spinners, saying that “there are many reports of them attacking individuals, gangs, and even entire outposts that have done some harm to Y’ffre’s realm.” She also compares the Wardens magic to the Spinners, believing the Wardens use conjuration and alteration magic as opposed to the Spinners, who tend to favor illusionary spells.
Perhaps the most interesting bit of information found in the essay is that the Wardens belong to no particular group or organization. They are not bound to the Green Pact (which is too confusing to talk about here so you can read about it on the Wiki) and all races seem to be welcomed into their ranks despite their association with Y’ffre.
Of course, all of this information has been made vague enough for players to freely create their Warden character’s backstory. It is interesting that they compare them to the Spinners, and I can see there being some kind of conflict between the two groups in future quests. Since the Wardens are much more violent, I can only imagine that the Spinners would find them brutish and unrefined.
Will you be creating a Warden when the Morrowind DLC releases on June 6th? Do you have your character’s backstory fleshed out already? I know I do.
