Crystal Dynamics revealed earlier in the year that they are working on an Avengers title. Not much is known about the game since that announcement, but, some details have been found out via job posts that were noted on Reddit. If these are to be believed, this game will be singleplayer focused, and not be a multiplayer game which apparently some people feared. But, it looks like those fears are unfounded, here is the breakdown of it all.
One job posted was for a Senior Producer, and they asked for someone who had singleplayer experience in game development. This goes along with a teaser that was released for the game that said, ‘Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.”
That does indeed indicate a strong singleplayer presence will be present in the game, but to what extent is still a bit unclear.
It’s actually quite understandable why players would want a strong story game featuring the Avengers, especially given that recent Marvel game Marvel Heroes was shut down rather suddenly, and other games featuring Marvel characters have story, but don’t always have enough of it.
In fact, with the upcoming Spider-Man game from Insomniac coming out, it’s very likely that players want something like that. Where you will play as the characters, but you’ll still be wrapped up in their universe and get to experience a lot of classic comic things but with fun gameplay to match.
After all, that is what the Batman Arkham games were all about, putting Batman in new situations, but still tying his entire universe around him, and that’s why they’re considered some of the greatest comic book games ever made. So, why wouldn’t fans want that for Avengers?
But, will this be the case? We’ll have to see.
