There are some video game franchises that are just plain beloved. Whether it is because of the gameplay, the story of the world or its characters, there’s just something special about it, and because of that, it gets popular. Through that popularity, the series gets more titles, and when it doesn’t, people notice. Well, for Sega fans, a long-awaited series is making its return in the west. For Sega has revealed that Valkyria Chronicles 4 is coming the Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
For those who don’t know, the Valkyria Chronicles series is set an alternate version of WWII, but with much more fantasy elements. You play as characters who have to fight this war with their abilities and powers, and try to get victory in intense RPG-like battles. What’s interesting though, is that Valkyria Chronicles 4 will apparently take place at the same time the original Valkyria Chronicles did. But, you’ll be playing as entirely different characters.
The years is 1935 EC, the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance are at war once again. Though both sides are fighting bravely, there is a victor emerging in the Imperial Alliance. But, the Federation has one desperate plan left to try and get victory. They will send squads to try and capture the Imperial capital city. Enter Commander Claude Wallace and the members of Squad E. These childhood friends must work together to try and stop the war, but they’ll soon find out it won’t be as easy as they believe.
In another fun twist, the BLiTZ system from a previous Valkyria Chronicles game is returning. And with it comes a new class to be in the Grenadier, and a “Last Stand” function, which can let dying players get off one more action.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about the art style of the game, all the hand-drawn elements the series is known for will be here.
There is no current release date for Valkyria Chronicles 4 outside of 2018.
