A new category is being introduced to this year’s Game Awards, one which will give one of five nominees a prestigious award of Best Ongoing Game at the event. There is quite an odd mix of nominees, given that there is both old and new titles involved, including Destiny 2, PUBG, Overwatch, GTA Online and Warframe.
It seems odd to have Destiny 2 in the running, considering that it has only been out for a couple of months, whilst PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently in Early Access. Overwatch’s immense popularity certainly makes it one of the top contenders to claim the prize, though it would be interesting to see it going to either GTA Online or Warframe, which have both been running for four years now.
GTA Online is surely one of the favorites in this category, considering it has been out for a while now and has kept GTA V in the charts since the new online entity released. However, to see Warframe pick up the award would mark what has been a huge year for the game.
Releasing back in 2013 after a testing period prior to launch, Warframe has managed to pull through and somewhat skyrocket to fame in recent times. This has been further aided by the recent release of the Plains of Eidolon expansion, which has added a whole new dimension to the experience.
The awards will be taking place in Los Angeles at the Microsoft Theater on December 7th, which will also see the first performance of The Games Award Orchestra.
