Video games are many things. Visual spectacles, narrative masterpieces (when done right), and of course, full of gameplay that we can do over and over again. However, another thing that gaming in general is, is something that someone from any age group can enjoy. Yes, there are mature titles, and games aimed for kids, but the vast majority are titles that anyone from 10-100 can pick up, play, enjoy. Especially when they’re online multiplayer titles like Overwatch.
Overwatch is a very unique game when it comes to how versatile it is for players of different ages. As the champions that you can play as are so varied, that anyone from seemingly any age group or even background could find one that resonates with them. Even if only on an appearance level. Archer samurai, cowboys, soldiers, pilots, gorillas (ok, maybe not that one on the appearance level), and so on. There’s someone for everyone. Which is no doubt a big reason Overwatch has been so successful.
The other reason is the community, one that isn’t afraid to ask questions, such as, “How old are you?” While you might think this would set off alarm bells, in the confines of a forum, it’s not so bad. Many are actually started on sites like Battle.net and beyond.
The most recent one was started by a guy who was 45, and is a diehard Overwatch player. Who simply wanted to know how old people who responded were. The responses were both kind, age variant. Many that replied were in their 20s, some were in their 30s, and a few noted how old they were by certain events (aka playing a game on a black/white TV). Some were even older than the poster, which no doubt made him smile.
No matter what age you are, if you enjoy playing video games, keep playing them, you deserve it.
