The Dies irae English Localization Project aims to bring the “Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~” visual novel to Steam, fully localized in English of course.
In 2007, Dies irae was first released, and was described as an “urban fantasy battle opera”, which is quite an interesting description for a game. In any case, after lots of re-releases, the story was finally completed in 2012 with the “Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~” version launching for both the PlayStation Portable and the PC.
As happens most of the time, a crowdfunding project launched in 2015 to make an anime that would be based on the game, and even by setting the goal to be 30 million yen, the crowdfunding raised an amazing amount of 96,560,858 yen, which was quite astonishing. The anime is currently under production but you can expect it to air in 2017, so keep an eye out for it.
Now, what are the goals for the English-localised Steam release of “Dies irae ~Amantes amentes~”? Well, the goal is $160,000, and at the moment of writing this, $103,319 was pledged with 16 days to go. It is likely to be funded in time as well, considering how much money the crowdfunding for the anime raised, and that this is an “urban fantasy battle opera” that has its foundations laid in the peak of WW2-era Germany and the story unfolds six decades later in Japan. The foundation of this story is laid in the climax of WW2-era Germany, but the true design doesn’t come to light until six decades later in modern-day Japan, with monstrous beings known as the Longinus Dreizehn Orden, who have exceeded the limits of humanity. The fate of the whole universe is at stake, so epic fights and twists are guaranteed.
The whole goal of the Kickstarter is to bring us an English-localized version as a Steam release, and with additional scenarios!
Will the Dies irae English localization project reach its goal? You can never really know an answer to questions like these, but from the looks of it, yes, it probably will.
