Many of us were taken by surprise recently when NetherRealm Studios revealed that the next fighter (or fighters in this case) to be entered into the growing Injustice 2 roster would in fact be the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The main reason for such surprise is the fact that there is of course four of them, so it raised the question as to how they would be implemented into the brawler, wondering if they would be fighting individually or as a team.
As we now know, one of the roster slots has been taken up instead of four, leaving us to assume that they will all be fighting as one single combatant. We have yet to see any gameplay footage of the heroes in a half shell so far, so all we have to go on is the line from Leonardo saying “we fight as a team, Mikey.”
This is more than likely going to prove to be a key line of dialogue in revealing how the characters will be implemented into the game, and what course they will take when taking on the rest of the DC fighters.
There are a number of ways in which they could be brought into the mix after all. The line of fighting as a team heavily suggests that it won’t be a case of choosing a single one of them, not too different from how Triborg works in Mortal Kombat X. It could also adopt the assist method, as seen in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, where fellow turtles could be combined to execute a move on their opponents. Other possibilities could see them using a tag-in method, which we have seen in the likes of Tekken, Mortal Kombat and once again in Marvel vs. Capcom.
It also makes you wonder whether there will be a single health bar for all four characters, or four separate ones. The former seems the most likely, which has been seen in the Mortal Kombat series when playing as Noob Saibot and Cyborg Smoke, or in the unlikely scenario it could be four separate bars similar to Aria in Killer Instinct.
