One of the hardest things for video game developers to do is predict what the future will bring for their games. Now, when developing for a console or a handheld (or even a phone in some cases) it’s easier, as the core hardware and software don’t change as much as people think. But when it comes to PC, that’s a whole nother matter. In fact, it’s because PC is so unique and diversified that developers don’t always make PC port. Those that do, are under a certain amount of risk, take for example the MMORPG Black Desert Online.
What’s wrong with the game you ask? Technically nothing, however, as Redditor QueToi points out, a looming Windows update is set to shake things up in the worst way:
“BDO crashes at the end of loading with this build, and the only workaround I’ve found is to put the game in compatibility mode for Windows 8 or 7, but at a significant performance cost.
This is indeed a problem, as the Fall Creators Update (the update in question) is coming out October 17th. What’s more, it’ll be released to any who have Windows 10, which is a good amount of people. This could cause many problems for Black Desert Online players.
Other players on Reddit aren’t too thrilled about the news update, though some of them are laughing it off with comments about how the game will actually run better in compatibility mode anyway. Some were curious as to whether this was an isolated issue, but someone other than QueToi popped up and noted that many people were having this issue.
A few others sought out advice on how to do a workaround that wasn’t compatibility mode, including not updating Windows 10 at all.
Regardless though, this update is coming, and the team behind Black Desert Online will need to think fast to fix this impending problem. Else players won’t be able to play the game at all.
