When it comes to the internet, there’s always one certainty: things will be leaked. Sometimes it’s accidental, someone makes a note about something that hasn’t been revealed yet and it spreads like wildfire. This happened for The Last of Us 2, Destiny 2, and more. And while players acknowledge that leaks can be bad, they also can help ease the tension of waiting for news on things. For World of Warcraft though, some believe that the lack of leaks about a potential new expansion is very worrying.
This notion comes from Redditor Lynchy-, who thinks the lack of leaks and information about the next expansion in World of Warcraft is downright disturbing:
“Come on, one week to go and no more news? Jeez by this time in past expansion cycles we knew everything!”
By “one week to go”, he’s referencing BlizzCon, the major Blizzard event where fans look to for more information about the various Blizzard titles. And many believe that it will be the place where Blizzard reveals the next expansion for the game.
It should be noted that it’s not hubris driving these ideas. The latest expansion for World of Warcraft, Legion, has been on for a while now, and though Blizzard has been adding new content and such for it, it does seem like it’s winding down. Thus, it’s the perfect time to announce a new expansion and start building hype for what’s coming. It’s not a stretch to say that new expansions drive in players to World of Warcraft, and without the expansions, the game would not be able to hold its standing as one of the most played MMORPGs on the market.
So why are there no leaks? Well, it could be that Blizzard is being very careful with information regarding the potential expansion. Leaks are hated by developers, as it ruins some of the surprise for the game. So, maybe they’re being extra tight-lipped so that they can truly wow people. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
