Video games are meant to be fun, and that’s OK, and in many ways, they’re meant to fill holes in life in a way that’s hard to explain. But what that doesn’t mean is that games have no effect on our real lives. In fact, it’s the opposite, video games can have huge impact on people’s lives. For MMORPGs like World of Warcraft, where online interaction is essentially, some funny stories can come of it.
Reddit user Ceritas asked some World of Warcraft players to regale him and others of their stories of how the game impacted their real life. Of course, he was happy to share a story as well. One time, when he and his fellow 7th grade friend were playing WoW in a way that would benefit both of them, where his friend would craft items, and he would disenchant them. He sent a text to his friend stating, “hey, i need some more greens,” and the father of the friend saw it and thought he was selling pot.
“He had to login into WoW and show his dad the concept of disenchanting “green” quality items. After 45 minutes his dad just gave up and stopped caring.
That’s one way to make an impression. Other World of Warcraft players happily joined in and shared their in-game to real life stories. One person noted how a raid partner he had introduced him to what would be his future wife.
Another talked about how she and her friends had been doing an all-nighter and were doing the Auction House for a while when they took a break and went to the kitchen. Her brother was there, saw her and went, “You need to get a life.” Her response? “How much gold is it worth?”
While others noted how their friends would often do things opposite of them just to have some fun. Like how Shoelesshobos was in the Alliance.
“Turns out a bunch of guys I knew atarted playing Horde so every time they would see me they would shout ” ALLIANCE SCUM, FOR THE HORDE!””
