The World of Warcraft is full of stories. In fact, a big part of the game is playing out those stories as your chosen character. Whether it be fleshing out stories of the Alliance or Horde, of finding secrets of the world, to advance the plot of the game and its various expansions, there’s a lot of stories to be told. But, not every story can be told through gameplay, or, it may be very hard to do so, so Blizzard comes up with other ways to tell you these stories. With the latest being audiobooks.
That’s right audiobooks, all sound, no visuals, well, except a cool piece of concept art showing off the main characters, but yeah, mostly sound. The story here is called “A Thousand Years of War”, written by Robert Brooks. Now, before you start wondering why Blizzard would tell such a random story this way, it’s not as random as you might think…
For you see, this three-part story (all three of which are out now, with Part 1 above), tells the tale of Ranger-Captain Alleria Windrunner and High General Turalyon, two key characters in World of Warcraft history. Their story finds them joining an Army of Light in order to combat the darkness that is the Burning Legion. This story directly ties into what’s going on in the game, while also giving you an interesting history lesson in the process.
The audiobooks are actually pretty long, ranging from 36-45 minutes depending on which part you’re listening too, and the books not only have full voice acting, but also background music, Blizzard wanted to make these special.
Now, if you’re not the audiobook type, fear not, Blizzard also released this World of Warcraft story via PDF so you can read it instead of hearing it. Either way, it’s a story worth checking out.
