It’s human nature to push things beyond the bounds of what we do, and what we can do. This only got more true when technology continued to advance at a fast rate. Now, everyone wants to make something to advance the future. ZF is taking that very seriously in their desire to craft a Self-Driving System.
Self-driving cars have been a desire for some time now, but, ZF appears to be going further. As they’re not only focusing on cars and trucks, but also factories that can run themselves. Their system is based on Nvidia’s DRIVE PX 2 AI car computer. The two are combining their efforts to push Artificial Intelligence further than it’s ever gone before, and making it so that it’s a real part of our lives.
ZF ProAI can make an entire fleet more capable by implementing swarm intelligence…
While it seems odd to start in driving, the men behind this system note that through their efforts, they hope to lessen, if not stop, traffic on a wide scale. Since traffic can be caused by the simplest of things, including a sudden stop by one car, not to mention accidents and wrecks, it’s not hard to see the appeal of having AI driven cars. But also, if it helps save lives on the road (with thousands of deaths caused each year because of traffic accidents), the technology is worth it.
The Pro AI will use multiple cameras, plus lidar, radar and ultrasonic sensors to detect both where it is at any given time, and then project a 360 radar to help figure out what’s around it. Thus, the machine will know what to do, and how to react, based on what’s near it.
So, will this be our future? Well, with more projects like these popping up, it’s going to be very hard to NOT see this as our future as time goes on.
